Webinar: Staying One Step Ahead – Recognising and Managing High-Risk Clients

An exclusive panel for yacht brokers, Owner’s Representatives (ORs), captains, managers and marine professionals.

Description

The new build and refit space in the yachting industry is constantly shifting, and with that, so do the associated risks.

A recent discussion in our YORP alumni group highlighted a familiar headache OR's know all too well - high risk and even 'ghost' clients. The type who vanish vanish after viewings or LOIs, leaving unpaid expenses and wasted time.

This session zeroes in on the initial stages of the buying process - from the first enquiry through viewings and early diligence. This is a critical phase where smart filters and clear boundaries matter the most.

This live discussion will dive into these complex issues, offering current and aspiring ORs and brokers practical advice on how to distinguish between the roles of an OR and a Broker.

During this session we will also discuss how to qualify a client's seriousness early and lock in clear, protective terms - such as written agreements for brokerage/OR work and formal sale/charter contracts when appropriate -before you commit significant effort.

Key Takeaways

You’ll hear it from all sides:

  • An experienced OR will cover how to scope work, set clear boundaries and safeguard your time before a contract is in place.
  • senior broker will share insights on reading client intent, avoiding role confusion, and maintaining momentum without giving away your value.
  • maritime lawyer will explain the essentials of clear written agreements (like listing, buyer-rep/engagement letters, broker-of-record/exclusivity, co-brokerage/commission). As well as how to craft NDAs LOIs that actually move the deal forwards, and when formal contracts (like the MYBA MoA) truly apply.

The discussion is directed at:

  • Owner’s Representatives (current and aspiring)
  • Brokers
  • Captains
  • Yacht/Vessel Managers
  • Shipyard and refit teams
  • Surveyors
  • Maritime finance / legal professionals

This session embodies what the Yacht Owner's Representative Program is about -raising the bar across our industry. This is an opportunity for you to learn from real cases, grow your professional judgement, and network with peers.

This is your chance to join a mock session of the Yacht Owner's Representative Program, and engage in a live discussion with our course directors, renowned keynote speakers, and former YORP students.
